The NSW Legislative Council Standing Committee on Social Issues established an Inquiry into the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (NSW) and associated matters. The terms of reference included inquiring into: the operability of the proposed anti-slavery scheme; the effect of the anti-slavery scheme on business, including the supply chain reporting obligations; and the intended application of the anti-slavery scheme with respect to charities and not-for-profit organisations, State Owned Corporations and local councils.

Anti-Slavery Australia’s submission notes that the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (NSW) provides a robust and more comprehensive response to the issues of modern slavery than the Commonwealth Modern Slavery Act 2018 and makes 12 recommendations to the Standing Committee including strengthening laws to support survivors of modern slavery.
