The United Nations Human Rights Council is currently undertaking the third cycle of its Universal Periodic Reviews of the obligations of members states’, which includes Australia, human rights obligations and commitments.

Anti-Slavery Australia submits that limited progress has been made in terms of implementing recommendations related to protecting and advancing the human rights of people impacted by modern slavery, as highlighted by the then, UN Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children (Special Rapporteur), Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, following her mission to Australia in 2011 as well as the previous Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Australia in 2015.
