The Department of Immigration and Border Protection completed public consultations on transforming Australia’s visa system as part of the Australian governments immigration reform. The consultations considered policy options for simplifying and modernising Australia’s visa arrangements.

Anti-Slavery Australia recommends that the Department of Immigration and Border Protection recognise the survivors of modern slavery while amending the visa framework, and to maintain the human trafficking visa framework. Anti-Slavery Australia submits that a pathway to permanent residency for survivors of modern slavery should be provided in situations where there are compelling and compassionate circumstances which mean that a survivor is unable to assist the police in an investigation.
