During the week the NSW Parliament played host to a positive initiative for International Womens Day. The event was an Interfaith Forum that gathered women from Australia’s diverse religious communities to discuss the contentious issue of forced marriage. The issue was brought into relief over the past few weeks by the story of Zulal Kirimi, a refugee from Afghanistan. Ms Kirimi has alleged that at the age of 15 she was forced into marriage with a man twice her age, in which she was subjected to severe beatings. which she blames for the death of a child.
