The Australian Parliament adopted an inquiry into how Australia’s federal family law system can better support and protect people affected by family violence. The Parliamentary inquiry conducted by the Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs considered how the federal family law system should be improved to better protect people affected by family violence, gathering evidence and written submissions from individuals and organisations.

Anti-Slavery Australia recommends that Forced Marriage Protection Orders should be introduced in the Australian family law system, to ensure that potential victims of forced marriage of any age are able to access adequate protections throughout Australia. These orders provide a pathway to access the Family Law Watch list, where there is a concern that a victim or potential victim of a forced marriage will be unlawfully removed from the country.
